Pipe lengths:
4 - 9 1/2"
8 - 4 1/8"
2 - 5 7/16"
2 - 2 5/16"
1 - 11/16"

I am not including the lengths for the sections for the legs. I forgot to measure those pieces.

The parts list:

1 - 3/4" pipe 10' - $1.56
14 - 3/4" 45 degree elbow (slip/slip) - $0.64 x 14 $8.96
4 - 3/4" tee (slip/slip/slip) - $0.32 x 4 $1.28
3 - 3/4" cross (slip/slip/slip/slip) - $2.05 x 3 $6.15
1 - adapter 3/4" female slip to 3/4" male threaded - $0.32
1 - reducer 1 1/2" slip to 3/4" female threaded - $1.27
1 - reducer 1 1/4" slip to 1/2" female threaded - $1.09
1 - cap 1" slip - $0.51
1 - quick cap 1 1/2" - $2.84
1 - leg tip 1" 4 pack - 2.39
1 - epoxy 5 minute - $2.97
1 - PVC primer/glue - $5.96
1 - flat black spray paint - $3.12
1 - 6' pole for push brooms and brushes - $4.99
1 - eyebolt 1/4" x 6" - $?
1 - 1/4" self locking nut - $?
6 - 1/4" washers - $?

The pole I bought just for the adapter at the end which screws into my mic shockmount/windscreen. I just removed it and sanded it down a bit to fit inside a 3/4" piece of 3/4" pipe, which I also drilled out to reduce the inner diameter. (The rest of the pole I will use for something else.)

The tee connection at the bottom allows me to mount it on an adjustable stand.

I ended up using about 9 feet of the 10 foot pipe.

I spent a lot of time calculating the measurements for the crossbar so that my camera lens was centered in the rig. The rig itself is about 25 3/4" wide and with the legs attached it is 27 1/2" tall.
Without the mic mount, stand mount, legs, and elaborate camera mount you could build it for $20. I spent about $48. (All the little things add up. I spent about $13 on the camera mount, about $5 on the mic mount, and $10 on the legs.)

I may eventually make a smaller one if I need one.

  • I can also see you easily attaching a Golf Bag shoulder strap to the rig and supporting the weight on your shoulders. nice Job. i am going to try and build a slightly smaller one to handle the Sony HDR-XR550V.

  • At 2:40 an excellent place to add a counter balance weight. Nice work.

  • @ThePatouru Make sure you get a camera with an external mic jack. The second camera I bought didn't have one and I've been kicking myself ever since. DIY equipment can be done quite well as long as you take your time and don't do a half-assed job.

  • @cynisturb Sorry to hear about the fire, but it's good that you got back on your feet. Let me know when you post a new video. I'm about to buy a camera and mic, is great to know that DIY things could be done so good.

  • @MaghoxFr my apartment burned down (no fault of my own and no insurance). I also just bought a house so once I get settled in, I will start making videos again. Thank you for the compliment!

  • I just seen your 5 videos, they are awesome, what happened? why you didn't do any more?

  • Nice job...

  • Good Video. Thanks for sharing. :)
