Optimal control in action

Optimally designed laser pulse (lower right panel) interacts with a pyrazine molecule. Left lower panel shows vibrational wavepacket as a function of two active normal coordinates in the ground electronic state. Upper left panel - first excited electronic state (usually called as a dark state). Finally, upper right panel shows second excited electronic state (bright state). Laser pulse is designed such that to populate specific linear combination of vibrational states in the bright state.
