*Lyrics

My young love said to me my mother won't mind,
And my father won't slight you for your lack of kind,
He went away from me and this he did say,
'It will not be long love till our wedding day.'

He went away from me and he moved through the fair,
And slowly I watched him move here and move there,
He went his way homeward with one star awake,
As the swan in the evening moves over the lake.

I dreamed last night that my young love came in,
He came in so sweetly, his feet made no din;
He stepped close beside me, and this he did say,
'It will not be long love, till our wedding day'

'It will not be long love, till our wedding day'

    Collins was more responsible for getting the Irish Republic than DeValera, who rejected the idea of a Free State and waged a fruitless civil war for ten months before finally taking the mantle and leading Ireland into the very Republic Collins fought and died for.

    Have to say I disagree with most of your account. But hey, that's only my opinion ! An Irish history student who's been studying 1912-'49 extensively for the last four years - and grew up listening to stories of great grandads accounts of the 20s, grandads accounts of the Border Campaign ect. Both have the utmost respect for Collins and De Valera, never had a bad word to say about any of them. You throw around the word traitor and the still occupied north and are a supporter of Collins ?

    Cont. F below. more thing Collins did not rely on children to fight for him was not a fundementalist christian & did not nearly cause another Famine + You may find it was the Russians & the North Americans who stopped Germany [though sadly not Fascism] T he Republic was declared in 49 during a speech in Quebec by Irish leader & I did not learn my Nations Histoy from Hollywood [sorry about the Soap Box moment ] slan ouiche

    Cont. F below. remained loyal to Collins knowing Valera`s true character Which he was so shocked that men he had called the bravest sons & Daughters of Ireland only a short time before refused point blank [no Pun intended] to fight or have anything to do with him or his fantasies [such as when he poured the milk down the drains when in power for his so called beloved people] as for proof if Collins had left for Cork to try and end the War Valera begun he would not have died [that day] one Cont

    A movie I was taught about Collins & his contributions to the struggle as soon as I learnt the Alphabet [at a very young age] My own family on both sides lost many through the centuries for the same struggle & while I respect your opinion do some more research on the units Collins was sending to the [still oppressed] North east of the country [All of which returned South ] as De Valera plotted to grasp power & enforce his ridiculous plan to return Eire to a pre Famine time & they Cont.above
