Great video. I am having this surgery next week. I had laser procedure done but that did not permanently solve the problem. I'm worried about scarring but hope for the best. I am a little frightened to have it done but I figure I might as well just go ahead and get it over with. Thanks for enlightening me as to what to expect. I agree about an update on how your leg looks now.

hi there im 15 and just went to the doctor today about a varicose vein that appeared on the back of my leg recently... its not a massive one and theres no pain but he said if it gets worse i should consider geting it removed... i have never had surgery before... what was the surgery like?

@killerpigeon347 The surgery is easy. Don't worry. I had my first one when I was your age, and it didn't stop it. That's why I had this second surgery. Do yourself a favor: start wearing compression stockings. I'm sure you don't want to but believe me, it's not really a big deal and it really helps. Good luck!

I want to know how the scarring is. Do you actually get to wear shorts, or are there purple splotches down your legs? I have it really bad and it's absolutely ruined my life. I don't go on dates and I can't wear shorts. I'm super active,so when I do wear shorts to run or go to the gym I am met with constant stares. It's so devastating.

@mschirmersf I'm sorry to hear this is so devastating for you. My veins were very bad before the operation but I've been wearing compression stockings for almost 10 years and it never really bothered me. Now, I do indeed have 12 purple marks on my leg but I still wear the stockings so you can't see them. Of course, you can definitely see that I'm wearing stockings but that doesn't really matter to me that much. I wear shorts all the time! My girlfriends have always been cool about it too.

bad luck I have that in my left leg broken leg surgery alcohol is it still painful?

It would be nice to have a new video of what your leg looks like NOW, so we can see the long term outcome. Thanks so much for posting this video. All of the other videos are PR for the surgeons who do the procedure. This brings the reality of the procedure to light.

Advice to reduce bruising after the procedure: Take Arnica montana homeopathic pellets, 5 pellets twice daily under the tongue after the surgery, for 4 weeks.
