Setting up of Arsenic filter & School sanitation block in West Bengal High School

In this video the children read out their list of requirements and share how they manage their school sanitation block.The sanitation block was designed based on inputs from the children on what they needed the most.

This video was taken in Dakshin Habra High School, located in the arsenic affected North 24 Paraganas District of West Bengal. The drinking water source for this high school earlier was a tube well in which the arsenic contamination was as high as 0.08 as compared to the permissible limit of 0.05. This had affected 850 students in this school.

Arghyam and Water for People supported Naihati Prolife, a local NGO to work with the school committee to set up a low cost arsenic filter unit and also a remodeled school sanitation block.
