The gearshift is, yes, kinda late (at 2:30). Considering the speed scale of this train, it calls for a 3-speed transmission for sure in Japan (referred to as "Kiha" for DMUs). Some Japanese country branch line DMUs, despite their not-so-fast top speeds, feature 3-speed transmissions.

@efcgarv Yeah, you always get one that has to say, "Hello... yeah... I'm on a train... blah..." haha. I prefer the 142's as well, but for a modern DMU, the 185 is very good indeed for a bit of thrash. Thanks.
