We all know, that their oil turned the Arabs into poor slaves, right?

Oh, how doomed this project is right from the beginning....at least if we would ask people like you.

And all those sandy desert strips....all those precious sand piles can´t be heated up by the sun anymore because all the bad western exploiting mirrors will turn the sun into energy for Europe and into money for Africa.

Has anybody asked the sand, what it is thinking about this criminal European plan?

    Sarcasm off.

  • soundz interesting, i hope they start off soon!

  • politics follow economics, not vice versa

  • Good luck with your conspiracy theories.

  • you do know that a loss of 15% would be disastrous right.

During conflict NO company contract cannot be breached.

The current leaders of those nations might indeed have a positive influence, but who knows what the future brings. It happened to iran.. it can happen in any country.

Also stating that my arguments are pointless shows that you live in your own world, and being oblivious to real world dangers. The reservations i voiced over this project are not only mine, many politician agree

  • "what if one of the middle east countries start to nationalize...?"

First of all; contracts can`t just be broken; There would be massive sanctions involved. Second, We`re talking about over a dozen Nations so One Nation`s actions have very limited influence. Third; The power stations are placed over 4000 miles apart. Fourth; producing only a max of 15% of Europe`s Energy. Fifth; Trusting these Nations will only play out positively in building stronger relations. Your arguments are pointless.

  • You forget the fact that being part of the ENP does not make those countries stable... georgia, syria, israel, egypt, russia (which has a similar arrangement)are all countries part of it and i wouldn't call it exactly stable and safe. Also desertec includes the middle east which is not part of the ENP.

Btw i wouldn't use the argument of being allies during the war in the past as a legitimate argument to start investing in those countries.. History has shown that allies can turn into enemies.

  • I'm not saying the resources are coming from europe, but the refinaries, storage of gas, the coal plants, the nuclear reactors ARE placed in europe. The production proces of energy takes place in europe and thus a (more) stable environment.

In the Desertec project the the resources and production of energy comes from the middle east and northern africa. Europe has no control on it whatsoever... what if one of the middle east countries start to nationalize the facilities?
