stihl ms 170 W Oregon 16" powersharp kit review/ cold start demo

This is a review of both the Stihl MS 170 I just purchased and the 16" powersharp bar and chain kit I bought for it.

Wanted to add a quick note, in the video I was around 200-250 feet into the woods, I finished or quit cutting this shooting lane at 334 yards in "I want to extend it another 100 yards or so" and I did not have to sharpen the saw again during this time and did not have to sharpen the saw until a few weeks later when I cut a couple logs on the ground and got in the dirt a bit took a few seconds to sharpen and it cut like new again. I have about 1 fill of gas left from the original gallon, and blade still has very little wear.

Wow! Now I know not to buy a Oregon power sharp. If you had a better chain you wouldn't have to sharpen it so often. Buy a larger bar and chain for that ms170

@TheSdriscoll Did you watch the video? If I would have used the regular bar and chain I would have probably sharpened twice as often to cut the same amount of wood than with the powersharp. Also that is the biggest bar you can put on an ms170.

I have had a lot of experience cutting wood on this property and know how it tears up chain, that's why I am so impressed with this system because it works a lot better I sold my husky 365 special because of this.

Glad you liked it one of these days I plan to do a followup with me actually sharpening it, I cut some logs on the ground a while back that I couldn't roll so got in the dirt a bit, and just did some other cutting as well "really close to using up my first gallon" so it needs to be sharpened soon. But this will only be like my 3rd sharpen.

Still love it and the saw, really happy with my choices.

An excellent little video, I checked out the Oregon website and looked up the bar search for my Stihl ms 181, whoopee-Have just ordered the powersharp and the 16"oregon bar as well as a spare 16" chain and a spare sharpening stone for the powersharp.I would agree with you about Stihl chainsaws being top notch-although I havnt used any other make the quality is excellent-they even sound good. A bit pricey but what the heck-you get what you pay for, cheers...Nick.
