It's not supposed to grab the pins after the second ball...the deck comes down, and a switch in each of the 10 positions is tripped if the pin is there. Vanni is right...the newer GS series does exactly the same thing to sense what pins are still standing. That eliminates the need for CCD cameras to detect pinfall, which is how AMFs and modified A2s with modern automatic scoring detect pincount.

Yes, but it doesn't grab the pins. The same thing happened to me in 2004 on a GS Pinsetter in Vegas.

Those pinsetters have an early automatic scoring system that relied on the pin deck feeling for the pins mechanically. That's why the deck comes back down after the second ball. The big humps in the middle of the ball return were the controls for the scoring system.

Wait...aren't A-2 pinsetters supposed to just "sweep" after the 2nd ball? Watch what happens after Steve Cook's shot at the 2-7. The machine actually comes down.

in fact, the pinsetter would remain down over the pins, until you moved the switch to your name, then it would lift up!
