  • New to me, as I've *never* seen (& heard) the opening credits with **no** announcer/narrative.

By the way who *was* the announcer for the opening? He did narrative/announcing for *most* if not *all* of the ABC programmes of that era, and I've always been curious about who he is (was?)

    Thanx fer the clip, m8...

  • No problem.. I think it is because this is one of the early seasons before there was a narrator, I remember his voice clearly too. "Starring Vic Morrow" - who can forget taht?

  • This is the first TV I ever saw where the German soldier was NOT portrayed as evil ... Only the SS and command was. It also had the Germans speaking German and had NO subtitles. This was an amazing series.

  • Vic Morrow and John Wayne were my hereoes as a kid !

  • @gaidensensei It was during the later seasons, when the narrator would say, "Starring Vic Morrow and Rick Jason" or the other way around. Because I watch Combat on the weekends now that I bought the enitre season for my dad.

  • @NamVetBuck --- Just to mention that Vic Morrow is [the actress] Jennifer Jason Leigh's father. Noted for 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' and many other good movies. Just alittle movie/tv trivia, nothing of big time need to know but it is interesting.

  • @spacepatrolman Don't remember that being in his book but it might've happened. The chapter on Welles' television masterpiece, The Fountain of Youth," is great. Jason was a golden boy at first because of that magnificent voice but he fought the studios at every turn over money when he was making peanuts, and other conflicts. So fascinating, and short, that I've read it several times over the years. I prefer him to Morrow now but his episodes are hard to find.

  • @spacepatrolman this episode they are showing right here with albert paulsen i remmeber that as being the first one i watched was it the first one or was the normandy one the first one or was this one the first one on the east coast ...

  • @Onlymusical yea i read that he faked a nervous breakdown to get out of the army

  • @spacepatrolman I guess I stand corrected. I never remember Morrow being billed over Jason during the first run of the series and could've sworn it never happened but I suppose this was a hell of a long time ago. By the way, I can't recommend Rick Jason's online autobiography highly enough. Read everything about his earlier acting career, not just the "Combat!" chapters. It's the most extreme example of an actor being on the edge of becoming a giant then blowing I've ever seen.

  • @Onlymusical yea i was in 6th grade we went to visit my cousin in fort dix they wanted him to be a squad leader he was an engineer he went in the chemical corps

  • @spacepatrolman Are you talking about back in 1962?

  • @Onlymusical i watched it from the beginning the first episode i ever wached had vic on first

  • @BadNews88 The announcer might've been Ed Reimers, who announced all the Warner Bros. westerns like Maverick, Lawman, Sugarfoot, and Cheyenne. Don't know, thoughl
