@texize Yes, the Soviets never had a buffer zone like the USA had with oceans on two sides.

If they had only invaded Poland, I would compromise with you.

But they also took all three of the Baltic Countries and invaded Finland so I cannot.

Btw, when you are a country that spans the world from the Baltic and Black Seas to the BeringStrait, how much buffer zone is sufficient?

Btw, the Red Army was in a forward offensive position in 1941, significant reason why so many were killed or captured.

Yes, while American forces struggled to get their full allotment of war material in the Asia theater against the Japanese, HUGE amounts of military equipement were sent to the Soviet Union.

The Soviets booted the Germans out of Eastern Europe, but it was Roosevelt at the Yalta Agreement in 1943 that signed off on allowing Eastern Europe to be under the sphere of Soviet influence after the war.

All the territory seized by the Red Army during the Soviet Union's alliance with Nazi Germany was held onto after VE Day in 1945.

Please understand that you could have a damn good argument about which country killed more total numbers of people..The USSR from the days of Lenin until 1980, or Nazi Germany from 1933-1945.

You may also keep in mind that the Soviet Union under Joesph Stalin entered WWII on the side of Nazi Germany by invading Poland from the East in 1939.

I've visited Omaha Beach and this Soviet memorial.....one is a graveyard of fallen soldiers, the other has a presentation of tanks.

Don't look now but the Baltic countries "liberated" by the Soviet Union are tearing down Soviet monuments right now. Regarding German's being friends with Russia, I will be smarter and let the Germans give their own response.
