Ok first I want to say YES I messed up in the beginning! I just picked up this reel about 2 weeks ago and have only practiced it maybe an average of 10 minutes a day. That being said, this is my attempt at Mairead Nesbitt's version of "The Contradiction". And to those who will say "Mairead is better" Of course she friggin is!!! She is an angel sent from heaven with a violin! (And also a 3 time Irish fiddle champion who has studied and played music all her life!)
Mairead is the one who inspired me to pick my violin back up (And put down my guns). I had about 6 years of military "break" from playing my violin. I started in Elementary school and played all through high school. I even found out (after enlisting *DOH!*) that I could have auditioned for Ohio State and even went on to the New York School of Performing Arts. If only I hadn't joined the damn Army. Again DOH!
But after an enchanting night (when I went to the Celtic Woman concert in Lexington back in September) I was inspired again to pick up my violin and play again. I was amazed to find I could still play it pretty well! (After almost 10 years of just picking it up every now and then) So I went on the hunt for a new and nicer violin (I was still playing the old Horsteiner I had in high school). Now I have a nice Italian shop violin (Which I use mostly for irish reels like the one in the vid) and a very nice J.B. Vuillaume from 1829 (Vuillaume was a french violin maker of that time period) These beautiful new instruments that I have come to own have inspired me even more.
Now I was trained as a classical violinist. So Irish fiddle is a bit of a new thing for me (The ornaments and technique are COMPLETELY different!) So this is the first actual reel I have learned to play decently. So basically, if you like it say so. If you don't but have some insight as to how I can improve please feel free to express such insight! BUT, if you are just another youtube troll... There is a "back" button for a reason!
Oh, and I was tipsy when I played this. But then again... It IS Irish music! LOL!
So... enjoy!
no offense but ouch!!

@richiem95 Yeah I know. I'll be putting up a better version when I get around to it.

Could you just mention the first note?
Thanks.
I just need that first note and I could probably learn it by ear too...
Ohh, forgive my manners, Great job, especially for 2 weeks at 10 minutes a day!

That's fantastic that you decided to take up the violin again! You can definitely tell that you are an experienced classical musician...awesome job! My only advice is that in Irish music, the strong emphasis on beat is crucial. When you listen to and/or play it, you shouldn't be able to stop from tapping your foot. That being said, I would put more emphasis on the strong beats. Awesome work though! Keep it up :)

@linhow1 Thank you. And you're right. I was just trying to play it way too fast. Like I said in another post, I'll be putting up a slower version when I can get around to it lol.
