Idiot, he introduced so many good policies for the soviet union, he gave more rights. Kept peace between the east and west. Pulled troops out of Afghanistan, The introduction of genuinely competitive elections for a legislature with real power (a decision, taken in 1988 and implemented in 1989, marking the point at which liberalisation turned into democratisation,

My whole area was the entire country... everyone...EVERYONE i talked to has agreed that life during the soviet times was indeed better except ofcourse the rich ones who are making tons of money..they are denying it. But ofcourse they would, they're rich. Collapse would not have occurred if Gorbachev would be careful just like China. Look at China, they're prosperous now but they also had the same economy like the Soviet Union. Soviet Union coulve been like todays China.

@azkodagama People weren't like that 25 years ago? The Soviet Union was simply the best country in the world? I'm not sure you're remembering the whole situation. Perhaps it was 90% better for the people in your area, but there were a lot of places in the Soviet Union who would disagree. Perhaps Gorbachev didn't do the right thing with glasnost and perestroika, but if he hadn't the eventual collapse would have occured regardless.
