Ground level nuclear explosions form an upwards conical blast. Part of the reactor may have been underground, which means the blast would have been more or less shaped upwards away from the colony.

He asked why it was reported as destroyed...But if you want to go there...This game is supposed to be a Sequel to Aliens. So correct me if I'm wrong in thinking that the colony on LV-426 was destroyed by a nuclear blast. If that is so, why does part of the game take place upon it?

So were supposed to believe Ripley Bishop and Newt are on the suluco while it's alien infested and still there why firefights, explosions and all sorts of crap happen just stuck in a sleep pod? Seriously?
