They did keep both formulas alive up through the early 1990s. In 1990 they officially renamed the newer formula as "Coke II" but it was eventually gone for good by 1995.

Anyone here read For God, Country & Coca-Cola by Mark Pendergrast? It's an awesome book. People reacted to New Coke like they'd lost a family member, and his chapter on the whole debacle is really good . And DAMMIT, Coke, take the HFCS out of the formula!!!
