The Beach Boys are an American rock band, formed in 1961 in Hawthorne, California. The group was initially composed of brothers Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. Managed by the Wilsons' father Murry, The Beach Boys signed to Capitol Records in 1962. The band's early music gained popularity across the United States for its close vocal harmonies and lyrics reflecting a Southern California youth culture of surfing, cars, and romance. By the mid 1960s, Brian Wilson's growing creative ambition and songwriting ability would dominate the group's musical direction. The primarily Wilson-composed Pet Sounds album and "Good Vibrations" single (both released in 1966) featured a complex, intricate and multi-layered sound that was a far cry from the simple surf rock of The Beach Boys' early years.

However, Wilson would soon lose control of the band due to mental-health and substance-abuse issues. Subsequently, although it released a number of popular albums (in various musical styles, with different line-ups) in ensuing years, the group never managed to reclaim its mid-'60s peak when The Beach Boys briefly challenged The Beatles both in terms of commercial and critical appeal. Since the 1980s, there has been much legal-wrangling among the group members over royalties, songwriting credits, and use of the band's name. While The Beach Boys released their last studio album in 1996, a number of versions of the band, each fronted by a surviving member of the original quintet (Dennis and Carl Wilson died in 1983 and 1998, respectively), continue to tour.

The Beach Boys have often been called "America's Band", and Allmusic has stated that "the band's unerring ability... made them America's first, best rock band." The group has had 36 United States Top 40 hits (the most by an American rock band) and 56 Hot 100 hits, including four number-one singles.[2] Rolling Stone magazine listed The Beach Boys at number 12 on their 2004 list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time". The core quintet of the three Wilsons, Love and Jardine was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

"Do You Wanna Dance?" was written and recorded by Bobby Freeman in 1958. It is also popular in the version performed by the Beach Boys, which was released in 1965, and in a version recorded by Bette Midler in 1972. The Ramones also cover the song on Rocket to Russia and It's Alive.

"Don't Worry Baby" was written by Brian Wilson and Roger Christian, produced by Wilson and first recorded by the Beach Boys. The band's version, a tender ballad with falsetto lead vocal by Brian, was first released on their 1964 album Shut Down Volume 2. It was also released as the B-side of The Beach Boys' first U.S. number-one hit single, "I Get Around", managing to reach number 24 on the U.S. Hot 100 in its own right. The single was released in the United States in May 1964 through Capitol Records. It was released a month later, in June 1964, in the United Kingdom.

Brian Wilson cited the song as his attempt to capture the essence of his all-time favourite record, "Be My Baby" by the Ronettes, who would later cover his song. At one time, Wilson listened to his 45 record of the song he "could never do" up to 100 times a day.

John Lennon's 1980 hit, "(Just Like) Starting Over", is considered by some to somewhat borrow from the chorus melody of "Don't Worry Baby", while Garbage's 1998 hit, "Push It", contains an interpolation of its chorus.

The song "Don't Worry Baby" is part of the The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll list, and ranked as the 176th greatest song of all time in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Geez, if it's not The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones on You Tube, it's The Beatles vs. The Beach Boys! O.K., let's one thing straight, The Beach Boys could SING CIRCLES around anybody including The Beatles and Brian had (and still has) an amazing ear for arranging. But there's no taking away from what The Beatles could do with their amazing talents. I can't compare "Pet Sounds" with "Revolver" because they are two completely different amazing albums. Just let it stay at that!
