It's part of the act. It's the same thing with the dude who he plays video games with, threatening to fire him, punching him, treating him like his lackey. That's what the act he's playing. "It's the conan show, and NO ONE else besides Conan deserves air time, or any kind of recognition" type of character

Ah, okay. I LOVE Conan, but I wont pretend I watch this show frequently.

However, when Conan says "Now I'm kind of sad." at the end of the segment it seems to me that he is taking a shot at La Bamba.

If you watch the Conan Can't Stop documentary/thing he uses this type of humour all the time with people he's really close to like his assistant. They're used to it, he means no offence and I'm pretty sure they're not offended..

Yeah, I agree. The first time I watched this I was a little shocked.

 However, Conan works with him everyday. La Bamba might carry himself in a way which makes people lose respect for him. Working relationships can be ultra strenuous.

But Conan still seemed to go over-board with him.
