@jdcarnes66 - P.S. - Just so I don't sound like a 'negative Nancy', I happen to use the fumble drill where you line the kids up in 2 rows about 3-4 yards apart, throw a ball in (have everyone yell 'BALL!!' when it hits the ground) and see who can cover it up first. Falling on their side, curled up, both arms tight around the ball. Have to make sure they don't try to fall on it face down or you'll end up with kids getting the wind knocked out of em!

On a more positive note, I thought the drill was excellent! Definitely going to incorporate this one into the practice plan every now and then. I have a 7-9 year old team and they would love this one!

"did u call the black kid a monkey u need to watch that coach!!"
And you need to stop being so damned sensitive about everything. I know there wasn't anything racially motivated in the comment since 1/2 the team is black (and I know the coach personally and you obviously don't). I call my players "boy" all the time. Would you be offended if you happened to hear me say it to one of the black kids on my team? Would either comment bother you if I (or he) said it to a white player?

Hey coach, know what you mean and I see no racial or slur intended.
Besides, the criticism comes from someone with a user name of MEMPSHIT!! Please, keep up the good work with the kids. Liked your blocking sled idea.

It didn't sound derogatory to me.

Sounded that way.

Looks like a fun drill for the kids...but...I wouldn't run this for the simple fact that if there is a fumble, what is the first thing you teach a football player? FALL ON THE BALL!!! If you teach them to try and pick it up, chances are real good that you won't recover that fumble during a game (unless there happens to be nobody else around for 10-15 yards). Just my 2 cents...

@jdcarnes66 Thanks for the feedback and we work on both scenarios in practice. I teach a hook slide recovery and a scoop and run recovery. How many times have you seen a kid in youth football fall on a fumble that could have been an easy TD? I have seen it quite a bit and so I try to teach them both.

I call all kids (black and white) monkeys because they get into things and act mischievous ... I never thought about it being a bad thing until just now that you brought it up... I assume you think there is a racial connotation but there is not... nothing but love for all my players.
