Elvis Presley Peace in the Valley
Written by Rev. Thomas A. Dorsey. Elvis sang this song on his third appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on January 6, 1957. One week later on January 13, 1957, he recorded this version at Radio Recorders in Hollywood. Take #9 is the RCA Master. Gordon Stoker of the Jordanaires played organ on the track. Based on its appearance in the EP Peace in the Valley, it reached #39 on Billboards Top 100 chart, staying on the chart for ten weeks. It is available on Youll Never Walk Alone, Amazing Grace: His Greatest Sacred Songs, Elvis by the Presleys, A Touch of Platinum, Platinum: A Life in Music, and The King of Rock n Roll-The Complete 50s Masters.

Oh well, I'm tired and so weary
But I must go along
Till the Lord comes and calls, calls me away, oh yes
Well the morning's so bright
And the lamp is alight
And the night, night is as black as the sea, oh yes

(There will be peace in the valley for me, some day)
There will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord I pray
(There'll be no sadness, no sorrow)
(No trouble, trouble I see)
There will be peace in the valley for me, for me

Well the bear will be gentle
And the wolves will be tame
And the lion shall lay down by the lamb, oh yes
And the beasts from the wild
Shall be led by a child
And I'll be changed, changed from this creature that I am, oh yes

(There will be peace in the valley for me, some day)
There will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord I pray
(There'll be no sadness, no sorrow)
(No trouble, trouble I see)
There will be peace in the valley for me, for me

  • Elvis has always been my favorite singer. The lord blessed him with the most beautiful voice. He could sing anything and it sounded great. Not many can say that.

  • i love this song:)

  • @volleeballchk So Very Sorry About Your Grandfather. And I Just Have To Say That Elvis Was A GREAT Performer. Your Grandfather Had EXCELLENT Tastes. :-)

  • His music was best when he gave credit to the real King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, Jesus the Christ. This song has always been my favorite version of the song by my favorite singer of the song. Thank you so much for making my Sunday EVEN BETTER! May Christ Jesus bless your home.

  • @whirlbirdy I just have 29 Years Old.

  • @OliviaRocks9989

    god bless, beautiful song xxxxx

  • This song is about redemption: about overcoming harsh life and conquering the elements of it. It is full of metaphors 'changed from this creature that I am' and 'the night is as dark as the sea' mean more then their literal, spoken meaning.
