Adobe After Effects - Shockwave Explosion Demo

An example of how to create a cheap non destructive explosion in your own basement. Uses green screen footage and a still picture I shot. The footage needs a bit of a touch up, but the final effect looks great! Thanks to the people from Video Copilot / Creative Cow and their wonderful Action Essentials pack and compositing tutorials for making this possible.

question, what did you use to make it pulse before the explosion, and third party plugins?

@rollert2 I just used the displacement map functionality of After Effects. It's built right in.

Whoa! Nice! How'd you get the two guys to 'blow backward' from the force of the explosion right into the camera? I've seen this sort of thing before - and your blast is as good as anything on the screen. How'd you pull that off?

The greenscreen footage isn't shot on a tripod :o that seriously makes the first few seconds look kind of bad. Also they move too fast out of the frame, but for the rest both the background and the greenscreen footage blend really good :D The mood you create is brilliant :p

Actually it is shot on a tripod in a green screen studio, if you look at the video reply you can see how it was composited.
