In my opinion, John Williams was one of the best referees of all time. He was rightfully standing his ground, because had he not, Alex would probably had John moving aound for the remainder of the match. If Alex had a valid point, how come he only requested it at the point where he was on the verge of losing the match, because if memory serves me right, he was close to defeat at this point Still, I suppose Alex always provided talking points for the fans.

@OneBillyTurner 'For asking baldy to move'?? I think you mean, for trying to distract everyone's (including his opponent) attention away from the game and onto himself, by complaining about a problem that wasn't even real.

If he wanted ref to move, he should have asked in the 1st frame, instead of playing 13 frames, and then suddenly deciding he's in the way.

And just because he's 'a great' does not mean he's above the rules. Players do not have the right to tell the referee where to stand.

higgins was a right bell end,he wasn't good for snooker in the slightest bit and the same can be said of o sullivan, yeah they sell tickets and merchandise by acting like twats, but still would anyay by excelling at the game and not acting like such mental cases.

and before any of you start with me, Im not a John Williams hater. I could also see Williams point of view. He felt within his right to stand where he did to ensure he was just dong his job properly. JW in his day was very 'by the book'. If most of us are willing to be blatantly honest and admit it, its a trait we dispise. So is anyone gonna call me an 'uneducated scumbug' then? The peope who cant stand Alex Higgins are the ones who dont expect people to be 'human'. More like a 'robot'. Yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir. Yeah alex was difficult.. Maybe he was trying to get attention on to himself but it was who HE WAS. A flawed human being with bags of character, including agression as well as adrenaline. He could also be a real gentleman.
