  • Tough game, kudos for playing it out.

    For the record though, I don't think winning culture would be too tough on this map. Late 1600s is not all that great a culture date, if you play for it from the beginning. Victoria is not ideal, but FIN is at least a good culture trait after Lib -> Nat when you're running the slider. And having Pacal found those religions for you would pay off big time. (Of course you would still have to conquer him since your start has low commerce potential.)

  • @malingered late 1600's isnt' that good for culture? Are you sure you're thinking of normal speed? I have no easy access to marble and am competing with several tech whores. Taking out Pacal would have been quite a chore if I was going for culture from the start. I don't see how culture before 1690 could be done, but I'm not the expert on culture wins.

  • These continent map types really add an interesting dynamic, as well as a lot more difficulty. I'd like to see you try one again sometime, maybe without the odds stacked so ridiculously against you.

  • Try again, then go culture from the start!

  • AP victory is probably most do-able. But the other continent techs so fast they can easilly get theocracy ridiculously early.

  • @Jameilalala That's very true, I'd much rather watch this video. I was just addressing Chris at the end saying he doubted culture was feasible on this map.

  • @malingered That might be true and all, but when you have an interesting map like this one and a player who, on a good day, can pull off a domination or conquest victory on it, you don't want to see him go for culture from 2000 BC onwards, right? :D

  • @Chris67132 I mainly play IMM but depending on the map Deity culture in 14-1500s is often quite doable on normal speed (and I'm sure others could do much better.) Marble helps ofc, as does not having to fight for land, but here I'd say it's offset to an extent by the fact that Pacal is a wimp and nicely founds religions for you. You just need to heavily cottage his cap and 1 other town, farm tons of artists from London, build multipliers in those 3 towns, run the slider in FS and you're good.
