Create a fluffy textured rug with recycled sheets & T-shirts. Simple latch hook technique using a rug canvas. Make a bath mat or area rug. It takes some time, but it's easy to do.

  • do you think it would work using yarn or wool ?

  • @jade1541 No, yarn would fray over time, and it isn't wide enough to fill in the holes on the rug without gaps. If you're talking about wool fabric off the bolt, I don't think that would be the best choice either. Wool tends to shrink when it gets wet, and that might cause problems in the future. I'd recommend sticking with the knit fabric.

  • The rug is beautiful. I think i will try to make one for my son's nursery. Is the rug washable?

  • @tledgee The rug is made of T-shirts, so yes, it's washable. The problem is that it's VERY thick and heavy (at least this large size is), so a standard washing machine wouldn't do a very good job. I recommend spot-cleaning with Shout. If you need a more thorough cleaning, hand wash it in the bathtub and hang to dry.

And for those wondering, I have vacuumed this rug with no problem using a Shark stick-vac. I'm not sure how it would do with something like a Dyson. You can always beat it, too.

  • @MadeByMarzipan UPDATE: I have now vacuumed this rug using my Dyson multi-floor vacuum... I used the "bare floor" setting because that turns off the beater bar so it won't get caught. It vacuumed without any problems on that setting. :)
