Maslenitsa celebrations traditionally welcome the Russian spring and encourage people to feast on Russian blini pancakes before Lent.
The free festival will include live Russian folk music, khorovody (circle dancing), skomorokhi (Russian minstrels), a tug-of-war and performances by the Russian Orthodox Cathedral choir and the Russian Orchestra of London.
The Mayor said: This will be a celebration of everything great about Russia, from the quintessentially Russian blini to classical Russian opera, jazz and traditional folk dance.
Russian Londoners are a thriving community who have made a significant contribution to the capital both economically and culturally. I encourage everyone to come and enjoy this fantastic festival offering.
The festival will include the modern folk group Russian Song of the 21st Century from Nadezhda Babkinas theatre; dance ensembles Chibatuha; folk-pop star Varvara; and singers Evgeniy Gor and Ed Shulzhevsky. There will be theatrical performances from Teatr Chudaki, plus Londons Russian Orthodox Cathedral Choir. Additional performances will be given by the Russian Orchestra of London, opera star Anna Gorbacheva and Andrey Kondakovs jazz ensemble.
Young people will be treated to an afternoon of theatre and dance performance in the Scoop with participants from childrens performing arts groups from across London.
The festival is organised by Ensemble productions, and is supported by the Mayor of London, as well as the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation; the Moscow City Government; Pushkin House, Londons centre for Russian culture; the Russian Embassy in London and Rossotrudnichestvo.
