This is of a mining shed with a big machine in it. I don't know what it was for, but It was fun. I was full of hornets!

  • I wish I owned that place.

  • I had a great time researching that compressor, there's even fan clubs for them! I seems they Type 10 was used throught America in mines from about 1900 on to provide compressed air, first they were steam driven, then by TWO phase electric motors! Then finaly 3 phase, later type tens had direct drive synchronous motors. Its a shame he doesnt show that building properly as there are I think FOUR sets of compressors in there.Underground Utah has some good pics but still not fantastic.

  • Oh!

    Thanks for clearing that up!

  • There are good stills of these items online.

  • Ingersol Rand make air compressors, this mine was in use until fairly recently, there's plenty of pages on the mine/town.Ophir is about 200m down the hill, google earth gives a fantastic 3d view of the valley,if you put in ophir, utah. When I first saw it I thought it was a generating set,but the name ingersol rand and the lack of valve gear on the heads+short stroke show it to be a comp. All the drills and emco muckers (seen elsewhere) ran on air + needed a huge quantity hence its size

  • It`s a compressor? I thought It was a generator driven by a steam engine

  • The "Water boiler" is an air tank, the heater is a small forging hearth.

  • Thats an air compressor, driven elctrically,

  • I have explored many places, including mining museums. This place beats them all. There must be a ton of stuff underground, as well. You are certainly not near any population centre or this would have all disappeared into the hands of collectors or vandals decades ago.
