Dubai International Holy Quran Award 2010 : Sri Lanka PART 02

14th DIHQA 2010 Part 02 of 02.


The first participant to sit on stage in front of five Islamic scholars and with an audience of hundreds watching, was a 13-years-old Sri Lankan contestant, who doesn't know Arabic but managed to recite the Quran eloquently.

Safarulla Khan Mohammad Safan began memorising the Quran at the age of 10 and completed the 30 chapters within a year and a half.

He goes to a boarding school which has 36 students, all of whom are taught by Arab teachers. He is one of 11 who have completely memorised the Quran.
His father died when he was just three years old and he now lives with his mother, his uncle, and his two younger brothers in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
