Great bit of info, that will be useful. The guy who showed you that misled you in one regard, though. It's pronounced "SOLDER" as in holder, colder, folder, older, etc, not "sodder" as in fodder, rodder, modder, etc. Pull him up on that one. Thanks again! :-)

Great video.

I have been doing this for years , but I am glad to see you share it with others.

I did this with lead and it sheared today. I'm going 50/50 silver/tin and trying it again. Silver/tin takes a long time to cure. Like a minute to harden and you don't want to move it while it dries.

Great vid, thanx. I may have to try this in a pinch. One thing that crossed my mind, is instead of wood, maybe drill a piece of steel to get a more accurate shape, maybe cut a little notch to allow the cable to be removed. I don't know if the solder would stick to steel though and prevent it from being removed.

wow, that last bit is exactly what I need. my tip busted off and I got stuck in the woods until I got lucky and found vice-grips.
one question, will Methanol (gas line antifreeze) work the same as Methal hydrate? should be the same compound. really you're just cleaning the grease off, so in theory even carb cleaner should work. maby.

Thanks so much, looked this up after spending hours with my soldering iron and bicycle cables in frustration.
Amazing, thanks again.
