Plain willow-wood Dutch clogs, for everyday use
Making a wooden shoe is real craftsmanship. It starts with a block of wood which is carved by hand into the desired model. Nose, heel, beak and sole have to be equal in size and identical for both wooden shoes.
The finishing touch is smoothing the outside surface, which can be done in traditional colours or a requested design.
Wooden shoes - or clogs - are often filled with straw to keep your feet warm.

@TheCreativeclass Which knife are you asking about? I'm a blacksmith, and I've just finished a block knife for a carver -- that's the one with the hook on one end that's used for shaping the outside of the shoe.

Excellent and practical shoes. Got some for my son to wear (@ 24 mos.) and he loves the attention they bring because of the noise they produce as he walks AND runs. Though he sometimes slips around, he is proof that they are very practical shoes. Hey, why don't they make bicycle clogs? Shoe bottoms for cycling should be extremely stiff.

I love how you still see people walking around in clogs in the Netherlands, just using them as general footwear, not just as part of a provincial costume

"poor trees" daft comment.....
LOL I'd rather have clogs (my english ones have lasted 14 years up to now) made from a sustainable supply of alder or birch, than a pair of fairy slipper trainers (which wear out within a year) made from oil based plastics.......
