Does it bother anyone else that after all that, the turkey in the Thanksgiving episode at the end of the series eats the petrified eyeball, and no one cares? It's never even acknowledged.
I can never decide if it's a metaphor for leaving the things that were important to us in childhood behind and embracing growing up... or just lazy writing. :P
