I got it he made it look like you just run over once with the brush not so have to continue going over think he could have mentioned that step is crucial to the process I hate half the information tutorials

Put your cursor over the channel mask, Hold the Ctrl key and Click. A selection will appear, now click on the the layer that you want to apply the mask and click the icon/button "create layer mask". It should turn into a mask. :)

so now, how do you get this channel mask to become a REAL mask in layers (if you have a multilayer image)????????
