Accordions sound very different depending on the keys they are in.

Think of an EAD accordion as a guitar without capo.

Now put the capo on the first fret and you've got FBbEb or think of this accordion as a tenor instrument like a tenor saxophone.

If you put the capo in third fret, you've got GCF.

The fifth fret equals ADG.

At the sixth fret you get BbEbAb and your accordion becomes an alto instrument like an alto saxophone.

As you can see, the GCF is right in the middle - that's why most people play this one.

The difference in sound between a FBbEb accordion and a BbEbAb is the same as between a tenor and alto saxophone or a male tenor singer and a female alto singer.
