To tell you the the truth i was a kid when this show was on tv and i didn't watch it. However i saw the intro many times while the tv was on and for some reason this music just relax me. i associate this song with the easy and good times of being a kid.

Most cop shows are superficial, predictable, faux Hollywood garbage. You are always aware that they are TV shows. NYPD Blue put you -- front and center -- at the crime scenes, police station, streets, and everywhere else it artistically weaved its intricate web of believability. The line between reality and fiction was so artfully blurred that it confused our subconsciouses into believing the unreal. THAT was the brilliance of NYPD Blue! The directing/writing/acting mesmerized and legitimized.

My favorite show of all times!!! Everyone goes on what a GREAT partner John Kelly (David Caruso) was 2 Andy Sipowicz (Dennis Franz)-He was only on for 1 season! Andy's best partner was Bobby Simone(Jimmy Smits), his 2nd best was John Clark, Jr( Mark Paul Gosselaar)-For a whileI kept thinking Zack Morris but eventually we had Detective John Clark Jr. 3rd best since he was their for more than 1 season was Danny Sorensan( Rick Schroeder) & 4th since it was only for 1 season John Kelly(David Caruso)

Great theme. I met Dennis Franz in Ireland. I couldnt believe it. He was so nice and came over to greet my family and talk, took a photo etc. His wife was with him, she was not as happy to have her holiday interrupted, hehe. I believe he divorced her since, not surprised!! But he is a gentleman!!
