Having been taught by my late grandmother to do embroidery (she worked at the Royal School of Needlework) I came across your video. I have been inspired! I decided to 'give it a try' and I can understand how you can spend 8 hours a day doing this. It is so soothing and once you have the basic blocks in place, you have to get the next one finished, and the next one, and the next. Before you know it, 8 hours have passed and you have something truly beautiful to show for it.

Your work is amazing. I need a good and simple book to learn from. Do you have any suggestions? I live in Utah and always go to our state fair every summer where there are pieces of Hardanger displayed. Most of them don't compare to your work. Yours are perfect.
Thank you for your comments. From your note I gather you are a needleworker too. I feel the passion in your comment. Have you ever done Hardanger? If not give it a try. I am self taught from a leaflet by Leisure Arts, Teach yourself Hardanger. It really lays out the steps for you. You are so lucky to have had someone in your family interested in needlearts, she must have been a great inspiration to you. Happy stitching and thank you again for your comment. Virginia

Thank You for your comment, I am glad I have inspired you to create some new designs. Hardanger is my passion, I work on it sometimes 6-8 hours a day. I am 76 and am self taught. I learned to do Hardanger about 12 years ago. I doesn't seem that long though. Time flies so fast. Your friend in stitching, Virginia

WOW! what a nice thing to say. I am self taught and I learned from a Leisure Arts Booklet "Teach Yourself Hardanger". It is very good, and easy to follow. I am a real addict, I can't wait to finish one peice before picking out another pattern to do, I change it to suit me though. I get a lot of my patterns and materials from Nordic Needle, they have a website. I hope you will get the book and try it, it is my favorite needlework but I sometimes add Blackwork or cross stitch to enhance it..

I have viewed your video at least 50 times and am so impressed with your work.
I do hardanger, and have taught it to many women. I think it is a shame that so many women know nothing of the art of Hardanger! My question to you is where did you get the patterns, I am always looking for new patterns. Thank you for your video it is truly inspiring,

Gee, all the way from Wis. !I have another batch of pictures to make a video of, and it will be featuring my Friend Joe and his music too. I have quite a few so it might be 7-9 minutes long. Hope it won't be to long for people to watch. I have a whole drawer ful of pieces. I am working on Angels right now, Ornament and full size 11" ones. I have been making them for my family, the ornaments are sold. I have 2 pieces right now in competion and will go to national contest with the Grange, VA
