Three suggestions:

1) The improvisations aren't working. Stick to the orignal at first. Nail that and then improvise.

2) Despite the investment in the equipment, you need to focus on technique and timing.

3) Try to play this with a cleaner tone. I don't know if it's just the equipment you used to record this or what but it sounds bad.
