The Inertia Clockwork is an escapement sculpture. An escapement allows the controlled release of stored energy. The stored energy is in the form of a wound constant torque spring. The release mechanism is somewhat similar to John Harrison's grasshopper clockwork which he invented around1722. The Inertia clockwork runs for about 10 hours on a full winding of 22 turns of the spring.
