I found the book to be good. It didn't knock my socks off. IT did flow GREAT and the story was creative. I felt that Crichton did not have a firm enough grasp on some of the technical nautical terms and procedures. To a reader that has not read many nautical novels, you won't notice but avid Nautical readers (like myself) see right off that Crichton did not have a lot of technical knowledge on the sailing and handling of ships of the period. There was a scene that I found a bit ridiculous......

(cont) Crichton was obviously a great story-teller and had a great imagination but I felt that the book fell a touch short of what he was capable of. Not an awful book, not a great one, but a fun read. I'd give it 3 out of 5.
