This is my friend and training partner Damon McClure (the white guy with lighter hair) winning his first MMA bout by ground and pound. He is outweighed by about 15kg (Damon was 94kg), and his opponent had won 6 bouts in boxing, all by knockout.

It is a very typical BJJ vs boxing bout - the boxer was taken down without too much trouble and defeated quite easily on the ground.

I am not saying that boxing is crap, please don't take it that way. I'm actually a big fan. Boxing is incredibly effective as a striking art. The problem is that it lacks a ground game! Which is why boxers who intend to fight in MMA need to learn a good mix of skills before they enter.

This fight was recorded at a Warriors Realm event.

A lot of people here have criticised Damons BJJ, saying things like "a blue belt would easily beat him". Damon actually IS a blue belt, and it was awarded to him by Roberto Traven.

Damons takedowns are not pretty in this video (though they worked). But in my opinion his groundwork was fine. He was not challenged on the ground in this fight. During the guillotine choke earlier on he intentionally made choking sounds so that his opponent thought the technique was working. He did this to help tire him out.

  • BJJ the BETTER WAY!!! When are people gonna wake up and accept it!! Grappling is superior to striking!!!! BOTTOM LINE!!!! STRIKING IS ONLY EFFECTIVE AGAINST GRAPPLING IF U ALSO KNOW GRAPPLING TOO, such as the case with Anderson Silva, great hands and amzing Muay Thai, but also a BJJ Black Belt!!! Chuck Lidell was a feared striker with good hands, but he was also a D1 Collegiate Wrestler too!! No such thing as a pure striker beating a good BJJ man, won't happen..... accept it!!

  • @mrpsb7 Those are the only so called "boxers" who fight in MMA, the ones who don't have the all around boxing game either. How could we expect them to bother learning takedown defence when they are just guys who can punch, that just masquerade as "boxers" and can't even learn that?

  • so frustrating to see boxers with no takedown defence fight mma....

  • @MrPhatmuscle obvious troll is obvious.

  • gracies tapped out everybody for christs sake. They're unbeatable.

  • this is why i will never ever fight anybody in a ring cause i do not want to embarass myself in the event of losing.

  • @MrPhatmuscle you're just scared to get ur arms broken. come on dude we all know a real man will fight anywhere.

  • @MrPhatmuscle Whos the bigger faggot? The one taking it in the ass and doing nothing about it, or the one giving it. I'd personally rather give it then receive wouldnt u? BJJ is more technique then anything. As soon as you start getting old, your boxing goes out the window. Same thing for any mma but especially for the ones that require speed, power, etc. IMHO boxing is more of a sport then a art... Movement, breathing, strikes. Pretty damn simple. BJJ there are thousands of moves and counters.

  • @MrPhatmuscle bjj teaches you how to break bones and tear ligaments i would way rather fight a boxer in a real fight. plenty of people know how to throw their fists at least if ur fighting a boxer u might have a chance (assuming hes a similar size) but if u get into a fight with a jiu jitsu fighter u better hope he doesnt get ur on the ground or ur over son.

  • @MrPhatmuscle Hahaha I thought so too, until I almost got my arm ripped off by a blue belt girl half my size
