I rode that in ‘68. Amazing ride went through Snake River Canyon in Colorado, with turns so tight you could practically reach out and touch the engine as it went by in the opposite direction.

Interesting now that Amtrak's incarnation of the train has now run 5 years longer than what CB&Q/D&RGW/WP ran.

Thanks for posting this valuable piece of history! Although I was born in a CZ town--Provo, Utah, I grew up in Iowa as well lived in Sacramento for a year--1978.

Wow old shot of the Zephyr and Sac sub. I think I heard that the old depot is now the Old Spaghetti Factory in Sacramento. That's an awesome shot. I have a ton of shots from that very place just about 40 years in the future though.

my grandpa was the engineer on that train. he and his friend did that final run together. i was thrilled to find this video!!! he is now deceased, but this was wonderful to see him from someone else's perspective

There is a little more railroad footage mixed in with all the home movies that my Dad shot when we lived in Sacramento many, many years ago. I plan on putting it all together in one video someday.
