My friend, Rob Nettleton, and I hosted an event at our school as part of the Dan Savage campaign for It Gets Better. We set up camp in one of the more busy places on campus and recorded messages from students and professors wishing to send the word out that it does get better.

I want to thank everyone who came and showed their support. I apologize ahead of time for having to cut some pieces out (everyone is in there! Don't worry). As we had mentioned before, we really only had 6 minutes to work with (I had to extend it by a minute or so by looping the music).

If there's no group for you in your school, university, college, or institution, or town, create one! I'm sure others in your situation will be grateful. Also, if you ever need anyone to talk to, please don't be afraid to get in touch with me or Rob. :)

We just want you to know that there is HUGE world out there that does love and accept you. You are not alone.

  • The same university that locks people up for peaceful protests. Yeah...real proud to be a part of this fascist university.

  • @AsSomedayItMayHappen well, if it makes a difference, CUSA had nothing to do with this video except providing the table we set up our equipment on. Rob and I did this on our own, we promoted it ourselves, and we dedicated our time to the project.

  • So proud to be a Carleton student today!

  • I'm not part of the GLBTQ community, but I was bullied for being who I am from Grade 1-Grade 8, and I am still dealing with those issues today. But I have to admit - it DOES get better! I'm so happy I didn't take my life, because there is so much I wouldn't have gotten to experience. Just remember you are you, stay true to yourself, and IT GETS BETTER

  • Awesome job everyone.

  • Good video!!

  • Thank you for your beautiful video message to all the Youth and Grown ups out here. Yes, I honestly confirm it got much better. And, today, I am more than ever happy and glad about who I really am. Yes, we are all beautiful the way we are. And, so are you. Dare to be yourself! Be happy. You deserve it.

  • Practically a good idea

  • This video makes me so proud to be a student at Carleton University! <3

My dad stayed in the closet for almost 40 years of his life, because he was scared to be who he was and wanted the life that everyone had expected of him. When he came out his life changed, he lost friends and family relationships changed, but my dad is now happier than ever and has realized that he has amazing friends and family that he can count on and who will love him no matter what. It really does get better! <3

  • Exactly, it definitely does not get better. The same bullies when you're little grow up and bully other adults.

  • @deschanellove Well, the title and the "on behalf of" comments were misleading then. Also, it doesn't really get better, if anything it gets worse. The same bigots and bullies grow up and find more nuanced ways to discriminate. Thanks for promoting false promises.

  • it really made me cry :'((
