Just a video response to a video response to my No Child Left Behind video. This video might not make sense unless you watch his video first.

Here's the video he was responding to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkleLjtt3WM

And part 2 of that NCLB rant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QD3LG9izNac

(Why do all 3 of my thumbnails look horrid??? Whyyyyy????)

  • You must be an awesome teacher Jen. Your students are fortunate to have such a caring teacher as you.

(A suggestion. Put links in your description to your 2 No Child Left Behind videos. They are worth watching.)

  • Good idea.

  • Aaamen. I live in Texas where we take the TAKS test every year. It seems to me that it isn't really about what we know, but what we can regurgitate by March. So much of it is how good a person is at taking a test--some people just aren't good at it.

  • Excellent video and as a person with learning disabilities or rather learning abled, I can definitely appreciate your suggestions. I would ideally like to see 3 assessments, a pre, a post, and a follow-up to really test retention, understanding, and proficiency. You are sooo razellicious!

  • I'm going to have to get my hearing checked - everytime Jen mentioned bell-curve I thought she said VELCRO.. this lead to a certain amount of confusion on my part till I realised!

  • Very good points made. I was a former special ed student and I pretty much had me and my mom fight to get me declassified. If I wasn't declassified I would have never went to college because the particular special ed program at my HS was very deficient.

  • As far as the NCLB I don't know enough to comment but I liked what you said. But a lot of it does come down to money. I know my sisters have spent money out of their own pocket for class supplies because the money wasn't available or they had to jump through too many hoops to get it.

Sorry this was so long. :)

  • I have three sisters that are all teachers (Preschool, Art, and Music). I wouldn't want their jobs for anything. I'm sure they make decent money but to put up with what they put up with and it's not the students (although there are some with problems), it's the parents. Some of the stories I've heard would make me want shake some sense into them.

  • I watched your original video that started this and read some of the comments. I was especially struck by the person that said teachers are "overpaid underacheavers".

  • Very interesting and well thought out! Pre-test/post-test really is the only way to go.
