Boško Brkić (Serbian) and Admira Ismić (Moslem) were killed by sniper fire in May 1993, while fleeing the Bosnian conflict. Brent Straughan's "Precari" is an operatic depiction of their imagined lives. In this part of a scene, (under tempo) done in "concert opera" form, Admira is watching over her sleeping nephews and daydreaming about her life with Boško after they make their escape from Bosnia. The Civic Orchestra of Victoria premièred this scene on Oct 28,2007,Victoria British Columbia.
-I cannot say enough good things about soloist Nancy Washeim, who I had not heard before. She has a lovely voice, uses it intelligently and has dazzling control: the score contains a couple of (what I was reliably informed are) top D's, which she hit with quite spectacular accuracy.- critic Deryk Barker Oct 28 2007
Conductor: George Corwin, Soprano (Admira) Nancy Washeim, Leader: Raya Fridman, Harp: Josh Layne, Video: Frances Straughan and Tony Warburton, Audio: David Conrad -closed captioned (surtitles)
