  • Oh God, the look Jay gives Jeff at 0.32-33 - how precious is that? They were two such great talents, and made such magic together, and maybe there wasn't room for two such egoes in the band, but I think there was a lot of affection between them, you can see this in the film. The music is a beautiful legacy. RIP Jay, and Rock On Jeff :)

  • I miss Jay and the sound he brought along with him.

  • Jay was the real rocker in Wilco he brought such a great sound to Tweedy. RIP

  • @Philmod68 If you look at some of my own vids you'll see I've got a little perspective myself ;)

Sound is awful but you can pick out a bit and judge my technique; just dickin' around, trying to get my chops back; I hadn't played since Woodstick '09. It's true Ken wouldn't fit in nowadays. I'll cop to some nostalgia; I lived in St. Lou' in the Uncle Tupelo days & saw Wilco's 1st show—Henneman from the Bottlerockets played guitar then (a damn tasty picker).

  • @cogscretin Hmm..some interesting points. But I can tell you from a drummer perspective(being Iam one)...Wilco ended up SOARING musically/rhytmically...with the switch from Coomer to Kotche. I pretty much dig all of the albums from AM to present. But when i listen to the earlier albums..as a drummer...powerful as Coomer is...his playing is very boring and unimaginative. Jeff wanted to push further..and Kotche PERFECTLY became the foil for this. Ken was good..but they needed Kotche to continue.

  • @inclinedplanes ...I am the first-mate with you on the Coomer/Bennett ship! I don't Kotche's playing...no balls. I stopped buying the records after "Ghost", which I listened to about three times before tossing to the bottom of the barrel. It's cool that Tweedy and the band as a whole grew so much artistically from an alt-country band, and I'm not annoyed by the people who are so nutty about them now, I just liked the "Summerteeth" ratio of "rock" : "art-rock". That was the band's zenith!

  • @sGCoreasheS I wouldn't take the docu' as gospel, particularly since Jeff stated later that the "differences" between them were not as deep as the docu' leads you to believe. Jeff said that Sam Jones was really lopsided in that portryal, which was is unfortunate. Again, my comment about Jones showing Jay playing a solo show to an empty bar is dickheaded; I feel he made Jay look like a stooge, when really he's a demi-god in my eyes. Have you ever heard Titanic Love Affair? The man was amazing.

  • @inclinedplanes Couldn't agree more! I met Jay many times back in my St. Louis days hob-nobbing and playing with some of the "Champaign pop-mafia" guys like Erik Voeks, Steve Scariano, Adam Schmitt, Nick Rudd, Pat Hawley; all guys who played with and knew Jay very well. He always just happy to play, never controlling. I feel like that was an asinine storyline concocted by the director of "IATTBYH". I really hate the scene after he gets canned and they show him playing to an empty house.

  • you don't maybe have the video of 'let me come home' from this too, do you?

  • From 2:40 until the end is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. Something about those chords just really resonates with me.

  • so i tap my glass and nod my chin and wonder who you've been in rhythm with
