Coshocton, a small rural town in Ohio, provides free WiFi in public areas in the community. It's a service that's used by citizens, businesses, and even the local police. Last week, Sony Pictures Entertainment, a Hollywood movie studio, threateningly notified the city that allegedly someone may have illegally downloaded one its movies. And so, the city's free public Internet access, used by hundreds, was shut down.
The entire city did not have public wifi (it's a decent size city). Only the area around the courthouse had it, which is only a city block. It would be the equivalent of a shopping mall having wifi. So not really that big of a deal considering the amount of business around the courthouse that already have free wifi almost makes up for it.
While I agree its stupid of Sony, it didn't really bring the downtown area to a halt because of it. The same 2 dozen people continued on with their porn:-)

The MPAA, the RIAA, and News Corp. are trying to supress the free flow of information over the internet because they can't make record profits like they used to anymore.
But they have to take their financial problems out on Coshocton, isn't that nice and greedy?
I feel so sorry for you all.
