Devils Tower vs Creationism

Devils Tower is a fascinating structure in North East Wyoming. It is the residual of a plutonic mass cooling in the Jurassic -- Cretaceous sedimentary rocks laid down when a large part of middle America was an inland ocean. The sedimentary rock has since been eroded away leaving only the volcanic plug. Similar plugs are visible nearby, as well at similar longitudes in the US (Shiprock in New Mexico).

Don't you think that it is more likely that the tower was created as a hard plug BELOW the surface of the local terrain and later on it was pushed up like a 'piston in a cylinder' during a subsequent hydrostatic pressure regime - much more recently. In this way you do not have to account for such a massive amount of surface erosion. And would erosion occur so evenly?

Charles Lyell, 150 years ago, suggested this phenomenon was taking place.

The gentleman is obviously quite knowledgeable about geology. He is, however, a little lacking on the bible. Nowhere does the *bible* say 4000 years. Indeed, the word for "day" in Hebrew is much like it is in English. It can be used to refer to a "24 hours" day, or "day" as in an era of time; "back in my day..." There is no indication in the bible itself that it is the 24-hour day that is meant. Thus, 6 days of creation can be millions of years.

Mithological note the Pleiades I just read in a beginner astronomy book (Nightwatch):

"Devils Tower was created by the Great Spirit to protect seven Indian maidens who were being pursued by giant bears. The maidens were afterwards placed in the sky as the Pleiades cluster, and the marks of the bears's claws can still eb seen in the vertical striations on the sides of Devils Tower."

I know no creationists that say it was created to test their faith. As far as explaining it, I wasn't here when it was formed anymore than you were. And time will tell which of us is barking mad, old boy. I don't know how or when he did it, but I do believe God created the earth.

The rocks aren't in Ireland (the country) they are in Northern Ireland, which is a different country.
