Bar 25 -- The Film (Working Title) will be a love song dedicated to a piece of the past right in the heart of Berlin. It will purvey this feeling of Freigeist in a community that, with the help of music, creativity, a pinch of stubbornness and untiring commitment, was able to turn an overgrown piece of land into a fantasy-filled wonderland. Removed from societal norms and with its own concept of time and space, it is a wonderland that has yet to find its match in the world. From open-up to close-down, from pitch black to strobe lights, we followed our protagonists from dusk till dawn and back to dusk again.
Documenting seven years of BAR25, from its beginnings to its end, the film will be like a backstage pass to this legendary venue, now world renown. In the course of those seven years BAR25 grew to a place of refuge, a party location, a workplace, a cultural space, a tourist attraction, a wellness temple and a gourmet eatery. It was a place where anything was possible and dreams found their expression, even making it onto the local political agenda. This story is a testament to the rapid changes the German capital is witnessing on a daily basis.
The film will show how much passion the crew of BAR25 brought to organise its momentous parties that were more playful and never-ending than any other parties in clubbing history. The film will show the impossible, the improbable and the improper.
Using interviews with the founders of the Bar, international artists, DJs and other guests as well as with politicians, we will illuminate the paradoxon BAR25. The film gives voice to both the Bar's supporters and its critics including those who left the project. The story of the BAR is full of tension and excitement, polarising people's opinions.
Year by year the team fiercely fought to preserve this space of unclaimed ground by the river Spree. They fought to prevent the sale of this land - land that once was the empty buffer zone between the East and the West. In 2010 the era of BAR25 finally came to an end, but not without copious amounts of confetti and the sound of a foghorn reverberating through the city. The film is a time capsule, taking its audience back to the music and the way of life that was BAR25. Pulsing with the beat its soundtrack will be exceptional, captivating, and sensational -- much in the same way the bar itself was.

Bar25 -- der Film (Arbeitstitel) ist ein Liebeslied an einen vergangenen Ort im Herzen Berlins. Er beschreibt das Lebensgefühl einer freien Gemeinschaft, die mit Musik, Kreativität, Eigensinn und unermüdlicher Energie eine Brache an der Spree in ein fantasievolles Wunderland verwandelte, das in der Welt seines Gleichen sucht. Fernab gesellschaftlicher Konventionen und mit einem eigenen Gefühl für Zeit. Zwischen Hautnah und Gänsehaut, zwischen Dunkel und Stroboskop begleiten wir unsere Protagonisten vom Kopfkissen bis in den nächsten Tag.
Über sieben Jahre, vom Aufbau bis zum Abbau blickt der Film hinter die Kulissen der Bar25. Ein weltbekannter Ort, der über diese Zeit zu Lebens(t)raum, Partylocation, Arbeitsplatz, Kulturstätte, Urlaubsattraktion, Wellnessoase, Freizeitvergnügen und Gourmettempel avancierte. Die Strahlkraft der Bar25 hat sie zu einem Berliner Politikum werden lassen und ist bezeichnend für die unglaublichen Veränderungen, welche die deutsche Hauptstadt prägen.
Der Film zeigt, mit wie viel Herzblut das Team die endlosesten und verspieltesten Partys der Clubgeschichte organisierte. Er zeigt Unmögliches und Verbotenes. Interviews mit den Machern, internationalen Künstlern, DJs, Gästen und Politikern beleuchten das Paradoxon Bar25. Auch Kritiker und Aussteiger kommen zu Wort, denn die Geschichte ist geprägt von Spannungen und der polarisierenden Wirkung des Projektes Bar25.
Jahr für Jahr kämpfte das Team für den Erhalt dieses Berliner Freiraums und gegen den Ausverkauf an der Spree. 2010 ging die Ära Bar25 mit Nebelhorn und viel Konfetti unter. Der Film will den Zuschauer noch einmal zurückversetzen in deren Musik- und Lebenskultur. Der Soundtrack gibt den Takt für das Lebensgefühl der Bar25 - pulsierend, eigen und maßlos...
Wir wollen einen neuen Weg der Filmfinanzierung wagen, der mehr künstlerische Freiheit zulässt, als eine ausschließliche Finanzierung durch staatliche Filmförderungen und Sendeanstalten.
