its better if you sand the surface before laying down the pad

There's no need to sand the board before applying the pad. As long as you properly clean the surface and let the adhesive set, you won't have any problems.

Try grabbing the traction pad by the tail block and pull it up the board as if you were peeling a banana. If you're having difficulty prying the pad from the board, use a hair dryer to heat up the pad's adhesive. Be careful to limit the amount of direct heat hitting the surfboard though.

The 3M adhesive is Heat Activated. You gotta heat up your board moderately for best results. Like with the sun or blow dryer, never hotter than you can touch.

Don't peel off the backing completely! Pull back 1/4 of the paper and handle each piece without ever touching the glue with your oily fingers. You can also position the entire piece before sticking on to your board.

Keep the pieces much closer together. The corners will peel off from use if you place them as far apart as is in this video.
