Home Delivery: Fabricating the Modern Dwelling is both a survey of the past, present and future of the prefabricated home and a building project on the Museum's vacant west lot. Not since the mid-century House in the Garden series has MoMA built occupiable model buildings to demonstrate contemporary issues to the public. The fives homes erected on the vacant west lot are designed by Kieran Timberlake Associates (Philadelphia); Jeremy Edmiston and Douglas Gauthier (New York); Horden Cherry Lee Architects / Haack + Höpfner Architects (London/Munich); Massachusetts Institute of Technology School of Architecture and Planning / Associate Professor Lawrence Sass (Cambridge); and Oskar Leo Kaufmann (Dornbirn, Austria).

The exhibition, and its accompanying Web site, display the process of architectural design and production in equal measure with the actual end result.

  • That would suck.

  • well, there are some manual washing (no - electric) that are portable and powered from an ecological rotary knob, would be perfect for the m-ch considering we do not have too many clothes. Also consider that nanotechnology are creating clothes that can not be stained or dirty.

  • obviously not withstand winds of 200 miles, but please clear that resists storms and snow, is made of solid aluminum and even very small and compact because it will give more concentrated resistance, as the smart fortwo. must take into account that it is designed in Germany for European countries and there are no tornadoes or strong winds as in the central states of USA.

  • you dont need dryer. there is a sink in there i saw it. but the washer is still a problem.

  • Where's the washer? dryer? bathroom sink? No bang for your buck, whatsoever.

  • show your wind calculations based on the IBC.

  • Terrible design ..in a storm , with strong winds , that box design would present way to much resistance . The winds, would rip that little house to pieces .

The concept is good , it's small , but functional ..it's the structural design , I have a big problem with ..A geodesic dome , would have been the ideal design , for this type of home .

It can withstand 200+ mile winds .
