"Absolutely immigrants need to learn English".

Why is this being presented as 'horrifying'? Of course they do. Why should people be allowed to run around predominantly English-speaking countries not bothering to learn the language? If you're going to live somewhere, prepare to integrate yourself into the culture. It's not about being black, white, asian or otherwise. It's about learning a country's language so you can function there easily.

Really i don't think For immigrants have to learn English unless they are living in a company of a American citizen my friend is French and he moved here in 2009 and he was asked to learn English but said, "Does it really matter what you speak in America? If then they want to understand my language simple just take the langauge and study about what simple words mean or simple ask some one who understands."

@SrConservador It's quite reasonable that Americans that live in the US do not "need" to learn a foreign language, and I'm not saying the contrary. The problem is, this video suggests that learning a foreign language is something suspicious, something like not being 100% American. Actually, learning foreign languages could help Americans to know more about the world, and it is widely known that many Americans can't answer elementary questions on world's geography, history and politics.

@sandrodecott What we're saying is that Americans should only learn a foreign language only if they feel like it or are required for study or employment reasons. On the other hand, immigrants MUST learn the language of the country they chose to live in. Bottom line, there's no comparison between our insisting on immigrants having to learn a foreign language and Americans residing in the US.

Most people here seem to be mixing things up. Immigrants learning the language of their country of destination should not be an issue at all. If they don't learn it their chances of succeeding become meagre. All this has nothing to do with Americans "need to learn a foreign language". They don't if the live in the US, unless their job/school requires it or they feel like it. They're different situations.
