Well, you can't get fairer than Tesco! Isn't religion great?

Many thanks to genji77 for the information.

Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain

I suggest you copy and paste the following letter of complaint from Jack2488 and send to both Tesco and The RPS.

"I have recently become aware that a pharmacist at your Hewitts Circus, Cleethorpes branch refused to dispense a 33 year old woman the pill, Levonelle. I would like Tesco to clarify why they place religious belief above the right of choice for women. I understand that the RPS (Royal Pharmaceutical Society) has its own rules of ethics, but why does Tesco employ those who are certain to refuse sale of certain items, reducing the service to the customer ...

I will from now on refuse to ever step foot in any Tesco store until I feel the company takes an appropriate stance on the rights for women to choose, above the those for those with beliefs to discriminate. Those who may be offended by such products should be made aware of what they are required to sell during interview stage and if they refuse they should not be taken on by the company.

A similar complaint has been sent to the RPS / Tesco*."

*Delete as appropriate.

Thanks to franky225 for the following:

Taken from the Phamacist code of ethics

III. A pharmacist respects the autonomy and dignity of each patient.

A pharmacist promotes the right of self-determination and recognizes individual self-worth by encouraging patients to participate in decisions about their health. A pharmacist communicates with patients in terms that are understandable. In all cases, a pharmacist respects personal and cultural differences among patients.

Ruth Johnson, 33, who has two children, including a month-old baby, had not been using her usual method of contraception with her fiancée.
She went to the Tesco dispensary in Hewitts Circus, Cleethorpes, Lincs, and asked an as assistant for the pill Levanelle.
Miss Johnson was told it could only be dispensed by the locum pharmacist who was called to speak with her.
She said: "He came out from behind a screen and told me that he would not be allowing me to buy the pill from him because he had a right to refuse to sell it on the basis of his personal beliefs.
"The pharmacist was of Asian origin so I asked him if it was because of his religion and he replied 'Yes'."
Miss Johnson, from Cleethorpes, was left feeling ashamed and worried and complained to the store manager who told her they couldn't force the pharmacist to sell the product.
She said: "I asked him if a Jewish or Muslim checkout operator could refuse to sell pork or alcohol or if a Jehovah's Witness could refuse to sell birthday and Christmas cards."
Her concern is that the policy could deter teenage girls from seeking the morning-after pill.
"I appreciate we live in a multi-cultural society but what gives him the right to impose his beliefs onto me?" she added.
A Tesco spokesman said the pharmacist was acting within his rights to refuse to sell the pill and the customer was advised where else she could buy the product.
He said: "We do apologise to Miss Johnson for the inconvenience caused. However, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's code of ethics allows pharmacists the right to refuse."
The Society said its code of ethics and standards is adopted by all healthcare bodies.
Its does not require a pharmacist to provide a service that is contrary to their religious or moral beliefs but any attempt by a pharmacist to impose their beliefs on a customer seeking professional help without offering an alternative could form the basis of a professional misconduct complaint.
Two years ago Jo-Ann Thomas, a school crossing patrolwoman with two children, faced a similar situation in Thurcroft, Rotherham, South Yorkshire.
She was told by a Muslim pharmacist at Lloyds Pharmacy near her home that she should go to her doctor for supplies even though the item was in stock.
She said at the time: "I'm a 37 year old woman, not a daft girl who doesn't know what she's doing. It's my choice not his. It's his religion not mine. He's a dispensing chemist and his job is to dispense drugs."

  • Pharmacy is a profession that is well-regulated. If legislators have ruled that pharmacists are allowed to refuse sale of 'the pill' on these grounds, I'm sure they've considered all perspectives.

  • @PencilOverPen

That's exaggeration. Pharmacists don't just supply contraceptive pills - that service is nothing in comparison to what they provide as a whole, and probably the only one they are likely to refuse to provide. If 'pro-life' Christians and Muslims have the skills to become good pharmacists, I don't see what the problem is - just go to the pharmacy further down the street and respect their viewpoint!

  • People, dont pick a job if it is against you're beliefs. because you're wasting yours and other peoples time, and you wont make money anyways if you refuse services that your SUPPOSED to give :P .

  • @EvolutionIsSatanic they shouldn't have that job if they know they have to do things that are against their religion. that's like a muslim woman doing porn but is like "i have to keep my burka(i think that's what it's called) on" wth? or a vegan working at a steak house. there's tons of jobs, dont pick one if it's against you're beliefs.

  • I wonder if this video would have even been made if the pharmacists were Christian.

  • If a Muslim or Christian pharmacist does not want to supply a customer with contraceptive pills, they are legally allowed to do so. If the customer wants a supply to be made, there are plenty of other pharmacists willing to provide the service. If the pharmacist does not want to provide a service they find unacceptable on moral, ethical or religious grounds, you cannot expect them to!

  • @IYC0370 Obstructing treatment is wrong which is done by imposing your views on someone else. However, the Pharmacist stated that he can't dispense the medication due to his religion, the woman could've easily went to another pharmacist who would've supplied this service. The Pharmacist can only "impose" their view if they obstructed treatment. The GPhC council have set of regulations if a Pharmacist doesn't want to dispense contraceptions, I suggest you read up on that

  • @AbuUbaidullaah A pharmacist, any pharmacist should not be able to do that. I agree with the woman. & yes he was forcing his beliefs on her bcoz it's a free world and she had a right to get the mediciation from that particular pharmacy if she wants 2 (which she did). The fact the retarded pharmacist didnt give her the medicine she needed means he forced her beliefs on her coz she was entitled to that medication. Man fuck the pharmacist, all i hope is that this country doesnt become a muslim one.

  • @AbuUbaidullaah Yea but they do coz THEY UNDERSTAND its their job to do so.Im shocked dat dis muslim pharmacist didnt dispense the medicine. He shud be sacked & his pharmacy license revoked coz tomorrow somebody cud be in real pain, even dying & the muslim pharmacist will not dispense the medicine dat wud help da person. Y is it always a prblm wen it comes to islam? The only answer is that they go back home to Pakistan etc because we hate yall here. Not 4 ur religon but coz u force it on others.

  • @AbuUbaidullaah This is not about reading the quaran. Its about a so called pharmacist not doing his job. I mean he shouldnt force his beliefs on other ppl like he did with that lady. Its always islam.
