Tour of Somerville. Had some issues cornering. Stayed upright. Very hot, very hard day. I used 3 bottles (1 short, 2 tall), dumping much of it on my face/neck/body. Since I had two bottles of Gatorade, it got a bit sticky.

201w avg power (235 normalized), avg HR 169 (last few minutes 179+), max HR 187 (normally 170-172 max), avg speed 27.0 mph, max power 1128w. Never sprinted. 37th. Heard 2 big crashes behind me, rode through one.

Tsunami Bikes custom frame w/Reynolds fork, 73 head tube angle (43mm rake), 75.5 seat tube angle, 40 cm seat tube, 56.5 cm effective top tube, 12 cm stem (73 deg/flat/no spacers), 41 cm bars (Mavic Crit bend).

Campy Record 10s group, Cannondale SI SRM crank, 53x39, 175 mm crankarms.

HED Stinger 6 wheels, Vittoria EVO CX tires (105/115 psi), 11-23 cassette.

Camera: ContourHD1080, set per YouTube user slowroadie's recommendations. Edited on a Mac using iMovie (as included in whatever Mac laptop I bought, about $1k).

  • Great video...got my heart rate up just sitting here watching it, especially that last lap. Great effort man!

  • @TheAnipotimus Thanks but it didn't get me anywhere except safely home. Coincidentally I'm literally working on the 2011 race, where I did the Cat 2s. Not quite so good unfortunately.

  • Cool video. It looks like you want to be close to but NOT too close to the front coming out of the last turn. I agree you were WAY TOO forward coming out of the last turn but that was the hand you were dealt. It seems the field was content to let you and the guy in front pull until they were close enough to launch for the finish. I was wondering once the guy in front of you blew if you should have just attacked and powered to the finish. You still may have got a top 20. Good luck next time!

  • @roadracer1593 Right on too forward, yes on the field letting us pull. A few riders back would have been better. On the backstretch I thought I played it well when I let that guy in, then met up with the left riders as they moved right. Unfortunately the second left rider let me through, putting me 2nd wheel.

I was totally maxed out as far as HR last lap. I had virtually nothing left as we hit the main straight. I couldn't go even though I "should" have; top 20 prob not poss, top 30 ok.

  • Hi i subscribed today and im really enjoying your work. How do you get envolved in cycling races?

  • @izmael44 I liked bikes, riding, and mechanical stuff. I wanted to get better (faster). I went on a bike tour (2 weeks, with panniers) and spent the whole time wanting to ride, not do the sightseeing. I also tried to beat the tour leaders up every hill. I hated that our longest day was only 50 miles. I was 14 and decided to try and figure out how to get into racing. It took me a year to find a club and a shop (no internet so lots of calls and visits). I started racing when I was 15.

  • I love watching your videos. Please keep uploading them.

  • @00cyclist I use a ContourHD set at 720p @ 60fps. I think I can go to 30fps but not sure.

  • Cool video...I was wanting to tape some of my races too. What camera/setup do you use?

  • Excellent commentary.
